Winner: Christine & The Queens

Héloïse Letissier aka Christine & The Queens stormed 2016. The French synth-pop star achieved incredible reviews for her debut album Chaleur Humaine, an album which in fact was released in French in 2014. Since the release in March, she’s spoken out on transgender issues, discussed pansexuality and wowed festival crowds around the country. Her Glastonbury set was crowned the best of the festival and at Latitude she declared her desire to “eat Rihanna.” She’s not afraid to speak her mind and champions people who keep true to themselves. She is a real icon both musically and personally and we look forward to seeing her develop as an artist in the coming years.Christine & The Queens.jpg

Winner: Blossoms

It’s been an incredible year for the Stockport indie band. Finishing fourth in the BBC’s Sound of 2016 list, they’ve toured extensively and released their debut self titled album which topped the charts. They supported The Stone Roses at Manchester’s Etihad Stadium, appeared on the front cover of NME and sold out an autumn tour alongside numerous successful festival slots. This year has seen Blossoms develop into the polished article and their rise can only be increasing in the next year as they start to play bigger venues.blossomsband

Winner: Spring King – Tell Me If You Like To

Manchester quartet Spring King were the first ever play by Zane Lowe on Apple Radio with their debut song City. The release of their debut album continues the delicious indie racket that we were first presented with. The album as a whole is a glorious, youthful rave, made for mosh pits and sweaty venues. Standout songs The Summer, City, Detroit, Rectifier and Mumma channel an eclectic mix of artists from Arcade Fire, The Beach Boys and Fat White Family. Singer and drummer Tarek Musa commands his band brilliantly and with support shows with Cage The Elephant in January, there are many opportunities to see this album being played.sping-king-2016
